SPIC MACAY Puducherry Chapter inaugural program
The Department of Electronic Media and Mass Communication, Pondicherry University chapter of Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY), is premiering online an exclusive interview with Prof. Kiran Seth, founder of SPIC MACAY. Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University will inaugurate the event along with Prof. Kiran Seth. Prof. Kiran Seth is an Indian academician, Professor Emeritus in the department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. In 1977 he founded SPIC MACAY, a non-profit organisation.Today, SPIC MACAY is conducting thousands of events every year in about 500 towns in India and abroad by some of the greatest exponents of the arts.These include classical music and dance, folk, theatre, screening of cinema classics, yoga and meditation workshops, craft workshops, heritage walks, exposure to world heritage and even holistic food.
Pondicherry University has started a partnership with SPIC MACAY and will be organising events throughout the year in a voluntary spirit. Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC), Pondicherry University recorded a one hour interview with Prof. Kiran Seth, in which he shared his 43 years of engagement with SPIC MACAY. Excerpts from this interview would be shown.
This will be followed by an evening of cinema classics presentation, in which the students of the department will host a film screening and discussion. Swayamvaram, the debut directorial film by Adoor Gopalakrishnan will be screened at 6 pm IST on the same link.
The film pioneered the new wave cinema movement in Malayalam cinema and won four National Film Awards at the 20th National Film Awards in 1973, including Best Feature Film and Best Director for Gopalakrishnan.
