The Wizard of Oz (1939) film by Victor Fleming.

[English]
(Duration: 112 min)

A musical fantasy film characterized by its use of Technicolor and memorable characters, The Wizard of Oz is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's fantasy novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, winning in two categories: Best Original Song and Best Original Score. Once the most seen film in movie history, it is also one of the few films on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. Victor Fleming enriched this masterpiece with a wonderful surface of comedy, music, special effects and excitement. The underlying story penetrates straight to the deepest insecurities of childhood, stirs them and then reassures them.

The story chronicles the adventures of a young farm girl named Dorothy in the magical Land of Oz where she embarks on a quest to search for the mystical wizard. Being a source of many quotes referenced in contemporary popular culture, this timeless classic is a must watch for cinema enthusiasts.

The screening will be followed by an interaction session with Dr. Vebhuti Duggal, Assistant Professor (Film Studies) School of Culture and Creative Expression, Ambedkar University Delhi.
