In 1805 most of Europe was torn apart by Napoleon's drive to conquer more and more territory including Russia.Members of the Aristrocracy had to join the army and face myriads of personal tragedies.It is also the story of a young Russian and how she fights to save her family during Napoleon's invasion of her homeland Based on Leo Tolstoy's novel of the same name the picture is a masterpiece in many respects.The massive sets, huge cast, costumes,the surge of military forces in conflict --- all this and more is depicted in a way that would impress anyone .
It has won the golden Globe Award in 1957 for the Best Foreign Film, Nastro d Argento Award for Best Score and Best Production Design and nominated for many awards including New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress.
The screening will be followed by an interaction session with Mr Prabodh Parikh, poet, visual artist and teacher of film and philosophy.
