[English]
(Duration: 125 min)
The Great Dictator is a 1940 American satirical comedy-drama film written, directed, produced, and starring legendary British comedian Charlie Chaplin. The film holds distinction of being the first true sound film made by Chaplin.
The film sees Chaplin play double roles: a ruthless fascist dictator and a persecuted Jewish barber.
Perhaps the most popular scene of the film is Chaplin's impassioned speech at the end of the movie. It has frequently been listed by critics, historians and film buffs as perhaps the greatest monologue in film history, and possibly the most poignant recorded speech of the 20th century.
The Great Dictator was a political satire, condemning Hitler, Mussolini, the Nazis, and anti-Semitism, which holds true even today making the film a must watch. Also, it was nominated for five Academy Awards giving more credence to the movie.
The screening will be followed by an interaction session with Alka Singh, Associate professor of screenplay writing, Annapurna college of film and media, Hyderabad
