A fantasy film-oriented around a series of events that narrate a tale of hardships, obscurity, war, perception, adventures, and lessons, Goopy Gayen Bagha Bayen is based on the first of the several stories of Upendrakishore Raychaudhury that was originally published in the monthly children’s magazine "Sandesh". Apart from setting a record as the longest continuously run Bengali- language film in Bengal, it also won the Best Feature Film award and Best Direction award at the 16th National Film Awards along with many international awards. Satyajit Ray, in this masterpiece, uses creativity and humor to unfold multiple layers of social and political elements. He unpretentiously demonstrates the relationship between the powerful and the powerless. The film revolves around the two male protagonists Gupi (the singer) and Bagha (the drummer). This captivating story with impeccable direction and astounding performances is a delight to watch for any cinema enthusiast.
The screening will be followed by an interaction session with Mr. Tuhinabha Majumdar, an independent filmmaker, film editor and film teacher.
