SPIC MACAY Cinema Classics presents
Ajantrik (1958) film by Ritwik Ghatak.
[Bengali (English subtitles)]
(Duration: 104 min)
Ghatak's first commercial film “Ajantrik”, revolves around a poor taxi driver who has a so-called 'living' car. When he meets a young woman betrayed by the man she was to marry, it prompts him to question his life. One of the leading themes of the film is introspection and reflection. The unique subject also made it one of the earliest Indian films that focused on an inanimate object. ‘Ajantrik’ also received a special entry for screening at the Venice Film Festival in 1959.
The screening of the film will be followed by an interactive session with Prof. Gayatri Chatterjee, a film academician and author.
