SPIC MACAY Cinema Classics : Tokyo Story (A Yasujirõ Ozu Film)

SPIC MACAY Cinema Classics
presents
Tokyo Story (1953) by Yashujiro Ozu

A profoundly stirring depiction of elemental humanity and universal heartbreak, Tokyo Story is the crowning achievement of the unparalleled director Yasujiro Ozu. The film is a story of an aging couple’s journey, who visit their grown up children in bustling postwar Tokyo, surveying the rich and complex world of family life with the director’s customary delicacy and incisive perspective on social mores. Tokyo Story plumbs and deepens the director’s recurring theme of generational conflict, creating one of cinema’s mightiest masterpieces.

It is often cited as one of the greatest films ever made, having been voted as the best film of all time in a poll of film directors by Sight & Sound magazine in 2012. On the directors' poll it was 17th in 1992 and has been ranked 3rd in BBC's 2018 list of 'The 100 greatest foreign language films' voted by film critics from 43 countries around the world.

Screening will be followed by an interaction session with Prof. Gayatri Chaterjee (film teacher and writer).
